About The Glendeveor Accommodation in Newquay Cornwall

The Glendeveor Accommodation in Newquay

The Glendeveor started off as two semi detached properties back in the 1920's, during the 1960's it was converted into one property trading as a guest house, since then it has had several owners and the accommodation has been increased right up to seven years ago when 4 new bedrooms were added, bringing the total up to 34.

There is a sun lounge and patio on the coastal side of the property, for those clients who might prefer to stay in the grounds, or for those returning from a day out to enjoy the last rays of sunshine before their evening meal.

And for those who do venture out on foot or by car, the town centre is five minutes walk away and the beaches are about ten minutes, depending on where you want to go. The staff will be only too pleased to give you directions to the varied beaches around Newquay and the local attractions, and there are pamphlets available from reception for those who wish to go further a field.

The Glendeveor accommodation in Newquay has ample parking for the use of its clients. The car park is in a secure location behind the property and is only accessible within view of the front desk. We are also within five minutes of the local coach park, and of course coaches can park immediately outside to allow their passengers and luggage to embark.

The proprietors John and Debbie are keen to do their bit for the environment. They use eco-friendly energy saving light bulbs wherever possible and now recycles up to 80% of its waste material, such as bottles, paper and plastic, through the local County Council initiatives and are keen to extend this into new area's when possible.
photo of the dining room The Glendeveor in Newquay takes great pride in being a family run 'friendly' accommodation provider. Many of our clients have visited before and are familiar with the staff and the relaxed atmosphere found within - hence our motto - "arrive as guests, leave as friends".

John and Debbie and purchased the property in August 2005. Both originate from Hayle (John moved to Cornwall from London when he was four years old). They have a large family - six children between them, although only two of the lads are still living with them. One of the boys, Danny, you will often see around the accommodation and helping out behind the bar.

Although together they have ten years experience running hotels for a large hotel chain, this is their first venture together as owners, and are looking forward to the challenges this will bring.

photo of Carol Most of our staff have been with The Glendeveor for a number of years and we are delighted they have all chosen to stay on. photo of Alan the barman

Alan the barman has been at The Glendeveor for ten years or more and is known to many guests as our very own Jethro, with his humour and tales of Cornwall. Not only is he a geriatric Tom Cruise (sorry Alan) on the cocktail shaker but his Cornish Bingo is legendary. You may think you don't like bingo, but believe me, this is nothing like you will have ever played before and the chances are you won't be able to play it for laughing!
photo of Dinsey

photo of Danny Dinsey our chef, who is also Cornish, joined The Glendeveor in 1995. Most of the food he prepares is made fresh each day including all bread rolls and the mouth watering desserts. (When Oliver stayed here he was too full to ask for more!)

Alan & Dinsey are also responsible for the redecoration of the accommodation when the property is closed after New Year for a month.

Lee, who joined us part way through 2007 as Kitchen Porter/Trainee Chef has fitted in very well and is now learning all of our chef Dinsey's skills.photo of Matt photo of Chris the receptionist

Chris our receptionist has been with us for nine years and she is generally the person you speak to first when you phone to book accommodation. She moved to Cornwall in 1982 and said it was the best thing her family did.

Helena our housekeeper started in 2003 and her standards of cleanliness are second to none. Carol came back to the us shortly after we purchased The Glendeveor after a break of a couple of years and as a team they both work exceedingly well. photo of Helena

Sarah and Gemma joined us during 2006 and has proved themselfs to be excellent waitresses. They are always smiling and bubbly. Already they has made quite a mark on the guests as they are pleased to see happy faces greeting them when they go in for their meals.

Piers & Jemma who joined us during 2007, between them, multi task as relief chambermaid, waitress, kitchen porter and Reception covering various staff members day off.

Our weekly entertainment is a varied mix. Ray Daniels is a firm favourite with old and new guests with his laid back country and western sounds but also middle of the road pop songs.

photo of guitarist Freddy Zapp is almost as crazy as Alan the barman (or is that the other way around?) Get ready for a fun filled evening with his Showwaddywaddy Show when it's his turn to entertain.

By popular request, Alan our Barman, come entertainer has been given his very own spot to entertain you, it will certainly be a night you wont forget in a hurry.

Ricky from California with his guitar plays a wide selection of music and songs.

Finally Robbie who again is from Cornwall is a welcome turn with his soothing sounds on guitar and vocals.
